EXTRAPAROCHIAL:
Geographical and Historical information from the year 1829.

"EXTRAPAROCHIAL, a parish in the wapentake of xxxxx. Placed here to hold the EP places."

"NEWPORT, or New Village, and by some known by the name of River-Bridge, is a village and an extra-parochial place, five miles from South Cave, in the same division as that town, This place, fifty years ago, was an uncultivated morass, but the fine bed of pure clay, from which are manufactured bricks, tiles, and coarse earthenware, has so enhanced the value of the land, that much of it has been sold for £200. per acre. Here is a neat Methodist chapel, and a Sunday school connected with it. The village is extra-parochial, and the number of its inhabitants is about 340."
Note: The directory entry for Newport in Pigot's 1829 Directory is included with NorthCave.
