NORTON:
Geographical and Historical information from the year 1829.

"NORTON, a village in the parish of its name, in the wapentake of Buckrose, east riding, is separated from Malton by the river Derwent, over which is a substantial stone bride, which affords a communication with that town. Considerable quantities of Roman coins have been discovered in the immediate neighbourhood; and it is conjectured that at an early period of history this was a place of higher importance than it is at the present day. The whole parish contained, is 1821, 1,168 inhabitants, of which number 1,017 were of Norton township."
