"HORNBY, a parish in the N.R. of Yorkshire."


"HORNBY CASTLE, in the parish of Hornby, in the North Riding of Yorkshire, near the r. Swale, 5 m. from Richmond, was the manor and seat of the family of St. Quintin, from which it passed to that of Coniers Lds. Darcy, and from thence by marriage with one of Sir John Coniers's daughters to Rich. Ld. Lumley. It is now the seat of the Earl of Holderness."
