June 9th 1944 . 426 Thunderbird Squadron . On wings of fire . Halifax aircraft LW598 was returning
from operations over Mayeene, France and was flying at a low altitude when the number two
cylinder blew off the starboard inner engine causing engine failure and fire. The aircraft crashed
at Newton on Ouse. The crew are buried in Stonefall Cemetery, Wetherby Road, Harrogate
