LEYBURN.
(CONGREGATIONAL.)
"The Congregational chapel at Leyburn was built in 1793, partly at the expense of Mr. W. Hartley, a lay preacher, and partly by individual effort and gratuitous labour." During the first few years the services were conducted by lay agents, among whom were Mr. Hartley and Mr. Brotherton. A student, named Rose, preached for some time, but died before ordination.
- 1811. Rev. GEORGE BROOKS, (Hoxton Coll.), became the pastor. He remained for thirty-two years, and retired in 1843.
- 1843. Rev. GEORGE CRAGG. This respected pastor remained till 1847, when he retired to Harrogate.
- 1857. Rev. JOHN HARLAND, from Seaham, the present pastor.
