The place:
A parish in the wapentake of Hallikeld; 3½ miles from Masham, 6½ from
Ripon and Bedale, 29½ from York. Population 709. The Church is a rectory,
dedicated to St. Nicholas, in the deanery of Catterick, diocese of Chester.
