ABERFORD:
Geographical and Historical information from the year 1750.

"ABERFORD, (given as "ABERFORTH" or "ABURFORD") a parish in the W.R. of Yorkshire, 210 m. from London, noted for the Mf. of Pins, has a Mt. on Tu. fairs Ap. 21, and Sepr. 19. The T. stands on the great Roman-cau-sey, which, all the way to Castleford-bridge, appears as entire as when first made, tho' 'tis near 1600 years old. Under the T. runs the r. Cock, and near it may be seen the foundation of an old fort, called Castle-cary. Here was formerly a priory."
