Hamelton's Chauntry, founded by William de Hamelton, Dean of York, A.D. 1302." 6 Kal. Junij 1292, the Abbot and Convent of Selby, considering that the towns of Hamelton, Gayteford, and Lund, by reason of the distance, could not without difficulty repair to their parish Church of Brayton, did unanimously grant permission, that in the Chapel of Hamelton, dedicated to the blessed Virgin, a Chantry should be and for ever remain for one Priest to celebrate divine service in the same perpetually."
