his wife, daughter of John Proctor of Long Preston.

John Starkie PRESTON, their elder son, 2nd Lieut:
1st Battalion Royal Scots (Lothian Regt.) after fighting
at Stormberg and elsewhere in the South African War
yielded up his life for his Queen and Country at
Dewetsdorp the 27th June 1900. Aged 21 years.

Thomas Haworth PRESTON, their younger son, Captain
1st Battalion East Lancashire Regt., fought in South Africa
mentioned in Despatches. Later he served in India and
formed one of the Expeditionary Force to France in August 1914
He was present at the battles of Le Cateau, the Aisne and the
Marne, and was killed in action by the Germans near Ploesteert
in Flanders the 17th November 1914. Aged 33 years.
