Data from the 'Collectio Rerum Ecclesiasticarum' from the year 1842.

The place: SOWERBY BRIDGE.     Church dedication: ST. PETER.

Morley wapentake. - Population, vide Halifax; Chapel-room, 1,000 *1; Net value, £166.

Patron, the Vicar of Halifax.

Valued in 1707 at £6 per annum.

In vol. xviii. of the Parliamentary Survey, page 278, it is stated: " Sowerby Bridge to continue annexed to Halifax, as it was in regard to nearness and the littleness of the congregation belonging the said Chapel."

Augmented, in 1719, with £200, to meet benefaction of £200 from Mr. J. Taylor and others; and, in 1775, with £200 by lot.

2nd January 1717, licence to celebrate the Sacraments in this Chapel.

15th July 1823, confirmation of allotment of pews.

No glebe house.

The Register Books for baptisms commence in 1709, marriages in 1732, but none have been solemnized since 1751. No burials until 1821.

Charity:
Edward Wainhouse's charity, by will, dated 18th September 1686. Rent of three cottages and between two and three acres of land, with a barn, to poor persona of the township of Norland. -Vide 18th Report, page 592.
