HEMSWORTH:
Geographical and Historical information from the year 1750.

"HEMSWORTH, a parish in the West Riding of Yorkshire, to the N.E. of Barnesley. Rob. Holgate, Abp. of York, who was turned out of his see by Q. Mary I. because he was married, founded an hos. here for 10 poor old men, and as many women; and if he was not the founder of the sc. here, he was a benefactor to it. The rectory is 300 l. a year."
