The place:
A parish and market town, hundred of Blackburn; 8 miles from Blackburn,
220 from London. The Church is a vicarage, dedicated to St. Mary and All
Saints, in the Archdeaconry of Chester. The parish includes the Yorkshire
chapelry of Whitewell, and although this chapelry has its own registers
from the early 18th century, the registers of the mother parish should
not be overlooked.
