Stained
Glass Memorial Window
In Memory of Peter Joyce
The inscription at the foot of the window reads “IN LOVING MEMORY OF PETER HENRY JOYCE 1920 TO 1988 BENEFACTOR OF THIS CHURCH AND DILIGENT CHURCHWARDEN FOR 38 YEARS FROM HIS FAMILY” The artist of the window was John Lawson of Goddard & Gibbs and it was known as the Healing Window when being made in their workshop. Goddard & Gibbs are stained glass makers of London. Peter Joyce was born at Woodfield Farm, Renhold, where his family have lived and farmed for eight generations and Peter was Churchwarden for 38 years. His great grandfather, Thomas, and grandfather, William, had preceded him as Churchwarden, in turn for 60 years. Peter was well known in the County of Bedfordshire for his wide ranging activities, not only in agriculture, but in Church and local government, and for his practical and caring personal ministry to the elderly and handicapped. He was a Foundation Governor of Renhold Lower School and always supported school functions. As a Parish Councillor his advice and knowledge proved of great assistance, and he sat on many Committees such as the Rural Community Council, the Internal Drainage Board and Age Concern. Peter is buried in the Churchyard amongst the many Joyce Gravestones to the right of the path to the Church (plot AB8). |
