STETCHWORTH

"STETCHWORTH, a parish in the hundred of Radfield, county Cambridge, 3 miles south-west of Newmarket, its post town, and 1½ mile east of the Dullingham station on the Cambridge and Newmarket railway. The inhabitants of the village are chiefly engaged in agriculture. The living is a vicarage* in the diocese of Ely, value £174. The church, dedicated to St. Peter, is an ancient edifice, with a tower and five bells. It contains a monument to H. Gorges, Esq. The principal residence is Stetchworth House."
