The Ancient Parish of ACKLAM

"ACKLAM, (or West Acklam, or Acklam in Cleveland), a parish in the wapentake and liberty of Langbargh; 7 miles NE. of Yarm. The church (see Churches for photograph), lately rebuilt, is a perpetual curacy, in the patronage of the Archbishop of York, incumbent the Rev. J. Waistall. Acklam hall, in this village, is the residence of Thomas, Hustler, Esq. Population, 105."

"AYRSOME, a hamlet in the township of Linthorpe and parish of Acklam, wapentake and liberty of Langbargh; ¾ mile NNW. of Acklam, 8 miles NE. of Yarm."

"LINTHORPE, in the parishes of Acklam and Middlesbrough, wapentake and liberty of Langbargh ; 1 mile SSW. of Middlesbrough, 7 miles NNW. of Stokesley. Population, 196."

"NEWPORT, in the township of Linthorpe, and parish of Acklam, wapentake and liberty of Langbargh; 1½ miles N. of Acklam, 9 miles NNW. of Stokesley.

This is a modern village situated upon the banks of the river Tees, and being an out-port belonging to Stockton, contains a commodious quay and granaries, for the reception of corn and other articles, which, are shipped coastwise to London, Newcastle, &c. -Graves Cleveland."
