The Ancient Parish of HILTON

[Transcribed information mainly from the early 1820s]

"HILTON, a parish in the wapentake and liberty of Langbargh; 4 miles ESE. of Yarm. The church is a plain, ancient small structure. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the patronage of Lord George Henry Cavendish; incumbent, - the Rev. Robert Fawcett. Pop. 135.

It was anciently a Chapel of Ease to Rudby; but on being augmented by the bounty of Queen Anne, it was made parochial. It still contributes to the repairs of the Mother Church. -Graves"
