"ARMTHORPE, a parish-town, in the lower-division of Strafforth and Tickhill; 4 miles NE. of Doncaster, 7½ from Bawtry and Thorne, 40 from York. Pop. 359. The Church is a rectory, dedicated to St. Mary, in the deanry of Doncaster, value, £8. 18s. 9d. Patron, the King."


"WARTERTON, in the parish of Armthorpe and wapentake of Strafforth and Tickhill; 5 miles NE. of Doncaster; the seat of the ancient family of Waterton several of whom have served the office of High Sheriff. Robert Waterton, Esq. was master of the horse to King Henry V."
