The Ancient Parish of CAMPSALL

"CAMPSALL, a parish-town, in the wapentake of Osgoldcross, liberty of Pontefract; (the seat of the Rev. E.B. Frank,) 8 miles N. of Doncaster and Pontefract, 9 from Ferrybridge, 30 from York. Pop. 389. The Church is a vicarage, dedicated to St. Mary Magdalen, in the deanry of Doncaster, value ~£16. 16s. 8d. p.r. !£120. Patron, Cook Yarbrough, Esq.

Of this place was Richard Frank, Esq. F.R.S. Recorder of Pontefract and Doncaster, a polite scholar, and a lover of Antiquities. He died May 22, 1762, aged 60. His valuable collections, including those of Dr. Johnston, a Physician at Pontefract, (which came into his hands on the death of the author's grandson, Henry Johnston) were, in 1780, in the hands of the late Bacon Frank, Esq. nephew and heir to the Recorder. --Nichol's Anecdotes."
