"WOODKIRK, (or Westerton), now known as West Ardsley, a parish in the Agbrigg-division of Agbrigg and Morley, liberty of Wakefield, 4½ miles NW. of Wakefield, 3 from Dewsbury, 9¾ from Bradford. The Church is a perpetual curacy, dedicated to St. Mary, in the deanry of Pontefract, value, p.r. £150. Patron, the Earl of Cardigan. Pop. 1,515."
