"COTTINGHAM, a parish in the wapentake of Harthill; 6 miles NW. of Hull. This place is of considerable antiquity and ranks amongst the most pleasant, healthful, and populous villages, of the East Riding of Yorkshire. The population of the parish of Cottingham, amounts to 2,479." (There is further information for Cottingham).
