"KIRKLINGTON, (with Upsland), a parish in the wapentake of Halikeld, and liberty of Richmondshire; 6 miles SSE. of Bedale. Here is a large and handsome church (see Churches for photograph). The living is a rectory in the deanry of Catterick, diocese of Chester, in the patronage of Lady Ormond, and the Rev. Thomas Place is the incumbent. Here is also a Free School, with a small endowment, left by Lady Ormond. This neighbourhood abounds with vestiges of antiquities, particularly the entrenchment of a Roman or Danish camp. Pop. 337."
