The Ancient Parish of SWINE

[Transcribed information mainly from the early 1820s]
"SWINE, a parish in the wapentake and liberty of Holderness; 7 miles NW. of Hedon. The church which is a Gothic structure (see Churches for photograph), dedicated to St Mary, claims to be of the age of Prince Offa; the patron is Mrs. Bramley, and the Rev. Matthew Williamson, is the vicar. Population, 229," (There is further information for Swine).

History

In 1867, the chapelry of Bilton along with the townships of Ganstead and Wyton (in this parish) were formed into the Parish of Bilton.
Also in 1867 several townships, all previously in this parish, were separated to form the Parish of Skirlaugh.
